The design concept for this single family residence in Hermosa Beach was derived from the need to achieve three different objectives.  The first was to change the program of the existing house so that common areas such as the kitchen, dining room and living room were located on the third floor to take advantage of the expansive coastline views.  The second was to create continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces on the ground floor. The third was to reduce the bulk of the home as it relates to the site and the surrounding homes in the neighborhood. The result is a plan which features a basement with a media room and gym. The first floor entry court expands into the interior entry and vertical stairway. The linear stairway provides separation and privacy to the ground floor guest suite. The stairway also provides separation between the master suite and guest bedrooms on the second floor. The third floor living room, lounge, kitchen, and dining are open to the south facing roof deck. The home also features a variety of alternative energy systems and eco-friendly finishes including a custom created artist inspired facade on the exterior elevator core.
