St. Johns on the Lake
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
SIZE: 220,000 SF I SERVICES: PLANNING, ARCHITECTURE, INTERIOR DESIGN
ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER, LEAD PROJECT MANAGER
During a period of tight financial markets and a national housing slump, the owner of Saint John’s formed a multi-disciplinary team and was able to deliver an inspiring, thoughtful, and pragmatic plan to create an innovative, healthier, greener urban residence for aging adults in Milwaukee.
The 21-story, 88-unit tower energizes Milwaukee’s Prospect Avenue at the street level and offers an exciting new option in high-rise senior living. The project’s urban location puts dining, shopping, and activities within easy walking distance so residents can stay connected to the community, while a connection to Lake Michigan provides soothing views and access to lakefront
recreational activities.
The building offers a hospitality branded street-side café, art gallery, spa and wellness center, classroom and community
performance space—all with easy access for future and existing residents, and access for the community, creating an
intergenerational environment. Another primary focus of the project was to enhance staff and resident quality of life through
sustainable building design, with LEED-NC Certification or equivalence as a goal.
