The Jules Stein Eye Institute Building is a 5-story, reinforced concrete building with concrete shear walls. Completed in 1967, a structural upgrade to improve seismic performance is now under construction. The project will create a new entrance and three story lobby connecting the new Jules Stein Plaza with the 3rd level of the JSB. The project will also provide accessibility upgrades for the building. To seismically strengthen the building, the firm of Nabih Youssef Associates proposes to reinforce the capacity of the column and spandrel frames using engineered fiber wrap. The column wrapping solution is less invasive and disruptive to the building. This project has targeted a LEED Gold rating.
